Germany and Austria
After a relaxing drive through the Rhine Valley, we arrived at our hotel to enjoy a traditional dinner. Day 4, We went on a Bacharach village tour with a local guide before hopping on a train for the nearby village of St. Goar. Once there, most of the group walked to tour the medieval Rheinfels Castle, perched at the top of the hill.
Unfortunately, we didn't go on the scheduled Rhine River cruise due to excessive flooding in the region.

The next morning, we headed to the best-preserved medieval town, Rothenburg, and were free to explore all day.

Day 6, We were off to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial for a somber history lesson. Taking pictures didn’t seem appropriate there but the somber images remain with me.
Afterwards, we drove to our new hotel in Ruette, Austria where we enjoyed some local Bavarian entertainment.
After a good night's sleep breathing in the fresh Alpine air, we were off to see the impressive Neuschwanstein Castle which inspired Walt Disney's Cinderella Castle. Once you got to the top of the hill, it was obvious why King Ludwig chose this location, the views are wonderful.
*Tip To get to the castle, there's a 30-minute walk up a fairly steep paved hill. For 8 Euros, you can have a horse-drawn carriage take you 3/4 the way up the hill.
